Early Times Report

Srinagar, June 2: The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) team that arrived in Kashmir on May 30 has “widened” the probe into the case linked to Lashkar operatives in the valley.
Highly placed sources told the Early Times that the ATS team, which is camping in Kashmir, to investigate the terrorist case of Junaid Muhammad was working on new leads in coordination with the Jammu and Kashmir Police as some more links and details about his alleged ties to Lashkar have surfaced during the investigations. The sources said the 12-member team was expected to complete the investigations in Kashmir in two days but that the same was being extended.
Sources said the ATS chief Vineet Agarwal is personally monitoring the investigations being undertaken by his sleuths in Kashmir. Agarwal is also understood to be in touch with some senior officials of JKP.
The ATS had arrested Mohammed Junaid from the house of his relative in the Dapodi area of Pune on May 24. According to the Maharashtra ATS officials, Junaid, 28, a native of Khamgaon taluka in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, Junaid was arrested for his alleged role in a terror funding case. Junaid was working in a scrap dealer’s shop in Dapodi.
The FIR against Junaid was registered at the ATS police station in Kalachowkie, Mumbai. Thereafter, Junaid was arrested under sections 121(a), 153(a) and 116 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and section 66 of the IT Act. Junaid, according to officials, was found allegedly accepting Rs 10,000 as funds from a Jammu and Kashmir-based terror outfit. Officials said that the ATS had alleged that the accused travelled to J&K at least four times, and was in touch with the Lashkar-e-Toiba operatives in JK, and also took Rs 10,000 as finance to procure arms and further the terrorist agenda.
