Top opposition leaders step in to form PDP-NC-Cong alliance in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 16: As the Election Commission of India has initiated the process to conduct the first assembly elections in the newly carved Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, top opposition leaders of the country have suggested National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party jointly fight the poll to counter BJP. Sources in the PDP revealed that two top opposition leaders of the country have asked two former chief ministers Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti to iron out their differences to stop BJP from capturing power in J&K. “After the meeting of opposition parties at Delhi on Wednesday to evolve consensus on the name of Presidential candidate, some leaders discussed the situation in J&K”, sources said and disclosed that during the meeting opposition leaders asked both PDP and NC to fight elections under the banner of Gupkar Alliance. As reported earlier, Mehbooba Mufti and Omar Abdullah have attended an opposition meeting held in Delhi on Wednesday. Sources said that top opposition leaders of the country assured that leaders of all anti-BJP parties would campaign for NC and PDP candidates in J&K provided they announce to contest assembly elections jointly and form a broad alliance with Congress in the form of a grand alliance. Sources said that Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamta Banerjee is very particular about J&K elections so she is playing an important role to convince both PDP and NC to contest elections jointly. As reported earlier, Omar Abdullah has recently proposed the idea that all constituents of the Peoples’ Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD) would contest the coming Assembly elections jointly. “These are my personal views. If someone asks me, I would suggest that the PAGD should go together in the polls ahead to keep BJP and its A and B teams away,” a local news agency quoting Omar Abdullah reported recently. |
