BGSB College of Nursing organise Autistic Pride day

JAMMU, June 18: BGSB , College Of Nursing, Jammu organised Autistic Pride Day on 18th of June 2022 in collaboration with Direct Early Intervention Centre (DEIC) under the supervision of Dr. Pushpendra Kumar, Principal of BGSB, College of Nursing, Jammu at Govt. Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu. Students of 3rd years and 4th years participated and performed a skit. The aim of skit was to raise awareness amongst those who were not on the autistic spectrum disorder but they have seen autistic people requiring treatment as unique individuals. During skit students explained about behavioural treatment and free treatment of autism given by Government. Dignitaries were present during this event i.e. Priti, Child Psychologist, Dr. Urvashi, physiotherapist, Ruksana, the program was began with a speech and highlighted the need to help and improved the quality of those with autism so they can lead joyful and meaningful lives as an integral part of society. Staff of BGSB, College of Nursing, Swati Jamwal, Khushbu Nisar, Farhat, were present in the event. The event was concluded with the significance of Autistic Pride Day was to help parents and society understand the hidden talents and strengths of those with autism. The day was observed to shift the attitude away from societies negative views towards acceptance. Parents see their child going through all the discrimination of society and the resulting trauma they experience. What makes them more helpless is that they can't do anything to improve their condition. Parents also go through caregiver burden as autism demands special attention, they struggle all through the clock to make their children acceptable in the society. Session was ended with a message that those with autism are not diseased but just different from others.
