Court awards 15 yrs RI in NDPS case | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 8: Additional Sessions Judge Udhampur S C Katal today awarded 15 years rigorous imprisonment and fine of Rs 1.5 lacs to Harvinder Singh from whom about 4 KG heroin and 2 KG poppy straw was recovered. On 16-5-2017 Mushtaq Ahmed (Sgct) in connection to the investigation of FIR 57/2017 registered under section 8/15 NDPS Act brought a docket in Police Station Chenani. According to the police that in the process of checking of vehicles at about 5.30 pm one vehicle bearing registration number JK02AU- 3131 came from tunnel side going towards Udhampur was signalled to stop there but the driver of the said vehicle instead of stopping the vehicle accelerated the speed and fled. The in-charge became suspicious and chased the vehicle and caught the driver. During the course of investigation SHO Paramjit Singh himself visited the site and prepared site plan. The heroine was found in four polythene packets wrapped in tattered clothes. The contraband was seized and the packets were weighed by weighing balance. The accused made the disclosure statement that he has hidden two plastic packets in the rear doors of the vehicle and he can recover it. During the search of vehicle 2 KG poppy straw was recovered and after completion of investigation challan was presented. Additional Sessions Judge Udhampur convicted the accused and awarded 15 years rigorous imprisonment and fine Rs 1, 50,000. |
