Azad likely to be new JKPCC Chief | | | Jammu, July 11: As infighting in Jammu and Kashmir Congress has intensified after G A Mir submitted his resignation, the party high command is mulling over the idea of handing over full command to former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad to end the factionalism. Highly placed sources said that a group at the national level has suggested the high command make Azad head of Jammu and Kashmir and give him all responsibility for the coming assembly elections in J&K.
“High command is ready to appoint any loyalist of Azad has new PCC chief in place of G A Mir but it is all due to infighting among loyalists of Azad that the central leadership has failed to take any decision on the new president of J&K Congress”, sources said.
“Some senior leaders have suggested to the high command that instead of giving responsibility to any loyalist of Azad it is better to appoint him (Azad) as PCC chief and put the onus on him to ensure the victory of the party in the coming assembly elections in J&K”, sources said, adding, “Final decision in this regard has to be taken by the high command only after consultation with senior leaders from J&K.
As reported earlier the party high command has yet not finalized the name of any candidate due to differences among different factions.
Not only Congress is divided between Mir and Ghulam Nabi Azad factions, serious differences have cropped up among leaders who owe their allegiance to Azad.
The Congress high-command has asked Ghulam Nabi Azad to suggest the name of any potential candidate to replace G A Mir.
Congress high command has decided to replace Mir to pacify annoyed loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad who have been demanding the removal of Mir.
“Instead of forwarding a single name Azad suggested names of Vakar Rasool and G M Saroori from Jammu and Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed and G N Monga from Kashmir Valley”, a source in Congress said and added that decision of the Azad to suggest four names created further confusion instead of unity in the Congress. |
