Wildlife Department celebrates Vanmahotsav-2022 | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 17: Department of Wildlife Protection on Sunday organized a tree plantation programme to mark the celebration of Vanmahotsav here at Nandini Wildlife Sanctuary. The programme was organised to commemorate 75th year of Independence “Azadi Ka Amrit Utsav” with the involvement of students, men, women and PRIs. The department planted 75 Wild fruit plants in the sanctuary. Suresh Kumar Gupta, the Chief Wildlife Warden, Jammu and Kashmir said that the Department of Wildlife Protection was focusing on planting fruit and fodder plants inside the Wildlife Protected areas. “The initiative is aimed to control human-wildlife conflict by way of enriching the wildlife habitats” he added. Ravi Kesar, former PCCF & HoFF applauded the efforts of the Department of Wildlife Protection for involving the stakeholders in its programmes. He gave several suggestions for making the drive more vigorous. Roshan Jaggi, PCCF Social Forestry assured support for providing quality planting material for the enrichment of wildlife habitats. He mentioned about necessity of taking up of plantation work in a time bound manner. Sarvesh Rai, Chief Executive Officer CAMPA highlighted the need for preparation of site-specific plants for the conservation, protection and development activities. He emphasized on involvement of youth and students in the greening initiatives. B.M Sharma, Additional PCCF Jammu, stressed upon effective protection measures for success of plantation work. He said that territorial forest divisions shall be forthcoming in providing assistance to the Department of Wildlife Protection in handling human-wildlife conflict. The programme was attended by students, women from various walks of life, officers and staff from various wings of forest department. The programme was organized by Anil Atri, Wildlife Warden, Jammu and his team led by Roshan Lal, Range officer. |
