Department of Music, Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organises sixth Online lecture

Hiranagar, July 17: Department of Music Govt. GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organised the Sixth lecture in the series of lectures under “Manthan”. Manthan is an online lecture series from Jammu and Kashmir to Kanyakumari organised under the aegis Ek Bharat Shreshta Bharat and Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav @75. The topic of today’s lecture was, “Pandit Balwant Rai Bhatt ‘Bhavrang’ Ki Rachnaon Mein Shiv Aur Savan”.
The resource person for the lecture was Prof. Swarvandana Sharma from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
The chief guest on the occasion was Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna, Principal, Govt. GLDM Degree College, Hiranagar. She highly appreciated this idea of the online lecture series wherein the experts in music from diverse backgrounds from the whole country are going to participate and exchange their opinions on culture and music in the coming days.
The resource person, Prof. Swarvandana Sharma in his lecture on “Pandit Balwant Rai Bhatt ‘Bhavrang’ Ki Rachnaon Mein Shiv Aur Savan” elaborated the contribution of Pt. Balwant Rai Bhatt in music. She also talked about the contributions of Pt. Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. Afterwards she demonstrated a few bandishes in different ragas which included the Savan and Shiv. She demonstrated few bandishes in Raag Gandhari, Raag Nat Bhairav, Raag Shivmat Bhairav, Raag Bhairav, Raag Yaman and Raag Kamod which are based on Shiv and Raag Komal Rishabh Asavari, Raag Yaman Kalyan, Raag Goud Malhar and a Chaturang which included the Savan.
The lecture began with the welcome address of the audience and the resource person by Dr. Bharat Bhushan, Head, Department of Music who also handled the proceedings of the lecture. Dr. Bharat Bhushan also informed that a book comprising the papers and lectures of all the invited resource persons will be published after the completion of the series. The entire work will be historically documented. The work and initiative would strengthen the institution at large. That is the idea, approach and philosophy of the entire concept initiated by the Department of Music under the guidance and leadership of the worthy principal Prof. (Dr.) Pragya Khanna.
The webinar was attended by the students, teachers and music lovers from across the nation. Many participants discussed and shared their views and also appreciated the efforts of the College especially the Department of Music in organising the series which is the first of its kind in the UT of J&K. Those who attended the lecture were Pandit Chitranjan Jyotishi, Dr. Vineet Goswami from Delhi University, Prof. Renu Sehgal from G.C.W. Gandhi Nagar College, Prof. Seema Sharma, Dr. Sanjay Kalotra, Prof. Yash Kumar from G.C.W. Udhampur, Prof. Asha Rani from Govt. MAM College, Dr. Surinder Kumar from Sikkim Central University, Dr. Davinder Kour, Prof. Neha Bhagat, Dr. Jyoti Rani, Dr. Arun Kumar, Mr. Mukesh Kumar, Mr. Vikram Jamwal, Dr. Nishtha Sharma, Prof. Kirti Lawanya from Bihar, Shri Rahul Bhat, Dr. Bhupendra Shrama from Haryana, Dr. Harish Kumar from Delhi and many more.
