Congress Workers stage protest in Ward No 7 | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, July 29: The Congress party on Friday held a protest against the BJP Minister Smriti Irani at Ward No. 7, Vivekananda Chowk in Jammu. The protest was led by Councilor Ward No. 7 Ritu Choudhary. The Congress workers, during the protest, held placards and raised slogans against Smriti Irani and BJP government and expressed their agitation against her comments against Congress President Sonia Gandhi. The Congress workers criticized the Smriti Irani's confrontation with Sonia Gandhi in the Parliament and demanded an apology from the BJP Leadership over the issue. Prominent Congress leaders including Atul Sharma, Ravi panotra, Anil Kumar, Rama Kumari , Geeta Devi Parveen, Sapna Mehra, Madhu, Raj Kumar Sodi were present at the protest. Speaking at the protest, Councilor Ritu Choudhary lashed out at the BJP over the incident that unfolded between Smriti Irani and Sonia Gandhi and stating that "Smriti Irani can express her opinion in a parliamentary and democratic manner instead of misbehaving. As a senior leader herself, she should not have engaged in petty heckling. Sonia Gandhi is a revered political figure and deserves that much respect from fellow parliamentarians. Such kind of behavior should not be tolerated," she said. The Congress workers took strong objection to the treatment of the issue by the government and demanded an apology from the BJP leadership. They said that the 'verbal assualt' launched by Smriti Irani at Sonia Gandhi was a shameful act and should be condemned. They further condemned the way how certain BJP leaders referred to Congress president in the Parliament. The protesters further expressed that such behavior in the Parliament was uncalled for and unacceptable. |
