Ahead of PM Modi's Punjab visit, high alert sounded in Jammu | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 21: Even as ahead of Prime Minister, Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Punjab in the coming days, an alert has been sounded regarding a possible terrorist attack in the state, neighboring Jammu and Kashmir is also on alert. The alert in Punjab was issued on the conspiracy of Pakistan intelligence agency (ISI) to terrorize Punjab. As per the intelligence reports, ISI is trying to carry out terrorist attacks in Punjab. According to the intelligence alert, terrorists can attack the bus stands in Chandigarh and Mohali. Official sources said as the terror infested Jammu and Kashmir falls just next to Punjab, the security agencies don’t want to take any chances but that an alert has been sounded. Sources said the security grid has been beefed up in Jammu in particular especially with regard to surveillance to foil any possible ISI conspiracy. The intelligence agencies have warned that terrorists can target bus stands and public transport and have sent inputs in this regard to the Punjab government. Following the update, the Punjab government has ramped up the security arrangements in the state, while the Jammu and Kashmir Police is working on similar lines in the UT, which shares common boundary with Punjab. It may be noted that PM Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Mohali on August 24, where he will inaugurate the Tata Cancer Hospital. Earlier, the Punjab Police had caught four terrorists from the national capital, namely Deepak Moga, Sunny Isapur, Sandeep Singh and Vipin Jakhar. The police informed that all four were in contact with their handlers abroad. During interrogation, the terrorists had revealed that along with Delhi and Moga, Mohali is also on the target of terrorists. The security agencies have inputs that the terrorists in Kashmir could be trying to “establish contact in Punjab.” “See the terrorists in Punjab and Kashmir, both have their masters and handlers in Pakistan, so a nexus between the two terror groups cannot be ruled out and hence one cannot take chances,” said a security analyst on the condition of anonymity. |
