Two-Day Residential Training Programme organised by BIS | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 2: Bureau of Indian Standards, Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office successfully organized a Two-Day Residential Training Program for Mentors of Standards Clubs of Govt. Schools of Jammu province on 01 - 02 September 2022 at its Branch Office, Jammu. The program was attended by the mentors of 31 Standards Clubs. Smt. Subah Mehta, Joint Director (JKAS) DSE, Jammu the Chief Guest in her keynote address said that in present consumerism oriented digital era, quality assurance has become very significant. This can be achieved by creating quality consciousness in the young generation. Youths of the country need to be prepare for the future needs. The values children are exposed to in their formative years get inculcated in their young minds and will help in transforming the future of the country. She appreciated that BIS JKBO has established more than 90 Standard Clubs in educational institutions of Jammu and Kashmir with an aim to develop scientific approach among the students in their daily life. She further stated that such clubs should be established in each and every school of J&K. Highlighting the objectives of the program and explaining the BIS activities, Sh. Satyadeo Lal, Senior Director and Head, Branch Office stated that children are the living messages we send to a time we will not see. The Mentor acts as the guiding force to get the activities under the standards club in a manner to channelize their creativity and enhancing their scientific temperament. It is therefore imperative that the Mentors themselves understand the concepts behind standards and their roles in quality ecosystem. With this vision, BIS JKBO conducted the training program in which technical Lectures on Overview of BIS activities, concepts of quality and standardization at national and international level, types of standardization and Standards, benefits of standardization, Objectives and Guidelines for Standards Clubs, Role and responsibilities of Mentors were delivered by Smt. Nisha Bura, Scientist D and Sh. Pankaj Atri, Scientist D of BIS JKBO. During the Residential Training Program, features of BIS Website, Manakonline Portal, Know Your Standards portal for free download of Indian Standards and BIS Care App were demonstrated to the participants with examples followed by classroom/group activity on Standards Writing on a variety of subjects. The BIS initiative of capacity building of the mentors was appreciated by the participants.
