Neta’s arrest in Delhi adds to AAP ‘embarrassment’ in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 17: The arrest of senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party in the national capital has added to the alleged “embarrassment” of the AAP in Jammu and Kashmir as many of its cadres are quitting the party here. The Delhi Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on September 16 arrested AAP leader Amanatullah Khan for his alleged involvement in a case of the Prevention of Corruption Act in managing affairs of the Delhi Waqf Board adding to the “fissures in the party struggling to make its impact” in Jammu and Kashmir for the last several years. No sooner, the news spread that Delhi ACB searched the AAP MLA's home and other sites on Friday and found Rs 12 lakh and an unauthorised weapon, many of the party cadres here and elsewhere in the Union Territory have decided to call it day. While dozens of the AAP leaders have already left the party, more resignations are expected in the coming days. “Why should one be with a party which swears by honesty and integrity but is facing serious corruption charges and arrests… This is disgusting,” said an observer. Apart from Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, the AAP led government in Punjab has been facing criticism for its alleged misadventures in governance. Prominent singer Sidhu Moosewala got killed when the AAP government withdrew his security cover soon after coming to power. But the scene in J&K looks even worse for the party led by bureaucrat turned politician Arvind Kejrival. As per the political observers, it is for the second time in the last around a decade that the AAP is failing to take off in Jammu and Kashmir. In 2014, the AAP had contested Parliament elections from Jammu and Kashmir Parliament seats but couldn’t win any. Soon after the seemingly dismal performance in the elections, most of the faces who had contested the elections had left the party. The AAP is accused of “red-tapism where the senior leaders call the shots whereas even feedback is not taken from the regional leadership.” Despite repeated attempts the AAP leadership couldn’t be contacted for comments. |
