‘All is not well’ in Azad’s party, ego-clashes likely to hit party
10/1/2022 10:46:42 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 1: Even as Ghulam Nabi Azad has been elected as chairman of the Democratic Azad Party (DAP), all is not well in the newly launched political outfit due to the ego-clash among some big leaders.
Due to prevailing uncertainty in the newly floated political party, some leaders who had earlier resigned from the Congress party have approached the party leadership for re-joining the Congress.
Highly placed sources said that differences among leaders were emerged during the very first rally on September 5 when Ghulam Nabi Azad addressed his first public meeting after resigning from Congress.
“Infighting started on the issue of a banner which was installed on the stage. A banner already installed on the stage was uprooted by another leader just before the rally”, sources said and added that this action enraged another leader who left the venue in anger.
Sources said that from September 5 infighting among loyalists of Ghulam Nabi Azad has been going on, rather differences are further widening with every passing day.
Appointing new office bearers would be a difficult task for Ghulam Nabi Azad due to ego clash among senior leaders who claimed themselves to be his staunch supporters.
Wishing anonymity, a senior Congress leader told the Early Times that a couple of leaders who had quitted the party in support of Ghulam Nabi Azad have now expressed their desire to return to the party.
Meanwhile Ghulam Nabi Azad has been elected the chairman of his newly formed Democratic Azad Party (DAP), a party leader said on Saturday.
A resolution to this effect was passed at a founder members session, which was held both in Jammu and Srinagar, the leader said, adding the decision was unanimous.
Azad, 73, who quit the Congress on August 26, launched DAP in Jammu on September 26 with the support of dozens of former ministers, ex-legislators, and other prominent leaders, the majority of whom also resigned from the Congress in his support.
