Helicopters, drones add to security cover for Amit Shah’s visit | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Oct 3: Even as Union Home Minister, Amit Shah is scheduled to address mega rallies in Jammu and Kashmir during his three-day visit, the helicopters of the Indian Army and drones of multiple security agencies will provide aerial surveillance. Sources said atleast half a dozen helicopters and over 100 hi-tech drones will be up in the air during the visit when he is scheduled to address mega gatherings in Rajauri and Baramulla districts of the Union Territory. Sources said while the security on the ground has already been beefed up to three-tier mark, the decision to gear up aerial surveillance came up following intelligence inputs that Pakistan sponsored terror groups were conspiring to carry out terror strikes across the region during the high profile visit. Sources said at a high level meeting on security, it was unanimously decided that while the Indian Army helicopters were likely to be used for aerial surveillance and that drones would be up in the air from almost all the police stations across the region. A senior official told the Early Times on the condition of the anonymity that the drones not only help in keeping an eye on the ground but also serve as a deterrent against any apprehended anti-national or terror activity. Sources said apart from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, the paramilitary police force will use its drones for surveillance. It was reliably learnt that the aerial surveillance will be monitored through a joint control room set up by the Police in Jammu and Srinagar districts. The sources said the high precision drones will are being used “for pixel perfect resolution of the ground.” Its pertinent to mention that terror activities have witnessed a spike ahead of the Home Minister’s visit including twin blasts in the garrison town of Udhampur on September 28, followed by attack on joint party of police and paramilitary in Pulwama on October 2 and attack on a non local bank manager in Baramulla who escaped unhurt on October 3. |
