At high command meet, Amit Shah seeks ‘Aatank Mukht JK’ | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Oct 6: Even as the Union Home Minister, Amit Shah before concluding his three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir chaired a unified high-level security meeting on October 5 here, the visiting dignitary is understood to have sought “Aatank Mukht Jammu and Kashmir”, and “even perceptible change in situation by November.” Sources privy to the meeting said that Amit Shah took serious note of spike in terror related incidents ahead of his visit and told the officials including those from the Indian Army, JK Police and the paramilitary forces present to initiate strict action to “bring situation under more of control by November.” The issue of international terror outfits like Al Qaeda trying to make “inroads into Kashmir was also discussed.” The sources said a mega crackdown on the “terror pockets” in Kashmir, especially in south and central Kashmir was discussed threadbare where the Army and police may go for a joint major offensive against the terror operatives in coordination with the central paramilitary forces by November. “There’s every possibility of a major Cordon And Search Operations in some areas about which there are inputs about the presence of the foreign terrorists and their elimination would be taken up on priority,” said a source privy to the meeting. About the summer capital of Srinagar, the Home Minister in a powerpoint presentation was informed that “Hybrid terrorism” had been active in some pockets. Sources said on the issue of hybrid terror, Shah said: “Which ever form of terror, the main aim of government is to make Jammu and Kashmir terror free at any cost.” The sources said “human intelligence network” across the border regions of Jammu and the central Kashmir in particular would be beefed up on priority with the “central police forces getting the main assignment on this front.” The sources said speaking tough, the Home Minister informed the officials that Modi government leaves no scope for any lapse and that all the forces will have to work in coordination to make Jammu and Kashmir terror free at an earliest. |
