10/16/2022 10:08:45 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 16: 1st time aluminium rake has been Manufactured in India with Joint efforts of Railways , Besco Ltd Wagon Division and Hindalco. This Aluminum Rake is Fully Lockbolted construction with no welding on superstructure. The tare is 3.25 tons lower than normal steel rakes, 180 ton extra carrying capacity result in higher throughput per wagon. The reduced tare will reduce carbon footprint as lower consumption of fuel n empty direction and more transport of freight in loaded condition. A single rake can save over 14,500 tonnes of CO2 over its lifetime. As per press release, this has been possible by dedicated effort for Make in India program as fully designed and developed indigenously in collaboration with RDSO, HINDALCO and Besco Wagon. This Aluminum Rake has Lower maintenance cost due to higher corrosion and abrasion resistance properties and 10 year longer lifespan of rakes as compared to normal rakes. The reduced tare will reduce carbon footprint as lower consumption of fuel.
This Aluminium rake has some features like higher payload, corrosion resistance which prevents damage and reducing maintenance costs. More availability of wagons means lesser number of wagons for transporting same quantity of freight resulting in more availability of wagons. It has more safety features and being light in weight it consumes less energy in Operation for same distance. It has higher aesthetic value and higher value on scrap (up to 70%). the gleaming rakes are 180 tonnes lighter than existing steel rakes resulting in increased speed & carrying capacity / lower power consumption for same distance.
