Kashmir Pandit killing: Intel agencies had ‘inputs of terror strike’
10/16/2022 11:00:20 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 16: Even as Puran Krishan Bhat, a Kashmir Pandit was shot dead in Shopian on October 15, the intelligence agencies had inputs of apprehended terror strike on the victimized community.
Sources said the intelligence agencies had inputs that the Pakistan sponsored terrorists were conspiring to carry out a “targeted killing” of Kashmir Pandit.
It was reliably learnt that a few days ago some Kashmiri Pandits were briefed by security establishment to be “extra cautious as there were inputs of apprehended terror strike.”
One such Pandit, who has already survived a deadly attack on him by the terror groups, told his aides that he “tried to play extra safe since.”
The sources said the intelligence input was that the Pakistan had directed its terror cadres in Kashmir to “carry out a targeted killing within a week.”
Official sources said the police and other security forces had already briefed those having threat to life about the inputs but that the unfortunate incident took place in Shopian.
Sources said the intelligence input had come from across the border that Pakistani Army and the ISI in a bid to keep the pot boiling in Kashmir wanted to carry out the targeted killing.
As per the police, the targeted killings are being carried out “out of frustration by the terror groups on the instructions of their handlers.”
Puran Krishan Bhat was attacked near his residence in the Chowdhary Gund area of south Kashmir district while police are probing about “possible security lapse.” He was rushed to hospital where doctors declared him brought dead after he was shifted to a Shopian hospital.
The area was cordoned off, and a hunt launched to catch the criminals.
Bhat is survived by two school going children - a daughter who studies in class 7 and a younger son who is in class 5.
The killing comes barely a couple of months after another Kashmiri Pandit was shot dead by terrorists at an apple orchard in Shopian district. His brother was also injured in the firing. The victim was identified as Sunil Kumar. His brother Pintu Kumar was injured in the attack that happened on August 16.
