Due to political compulsion, Azad ultimately gives misleading statement on Art 370

Early Times Report

Jammu, Oct 18: A month after announcing that he will not “mislead” people by promising to restore Article 370, former Chief Minister and head of the Democratic Azad Party (DAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday said that he will try to bring back this Article.
“I do not promise to bring back Article 370, but I will try to bring it back. I raised my voice at every place; the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha, but the solution cannot come out until like-minded parties are in the absolute majority," he said
“I can promise that the people of Jammu and Kashmir have the right to the land. I am in favor of bringing back Article 370. Article 370 was part of our constitution, it was not against anyone,” he said.
Earlier on September 11, Ghulam Nabi Azad said he will not mislead the people over the issue of Article 370 as only a government with a two-thirds majority in Parliament can ensure the restoration of the provision.
“Azad knows what can and cannot be done. I or the Congress party or three regional parties cannot give you back Article 370, neither can (TMC chief) Mamata Banerjee, or DMK or (NCP chief) Sharad Pawar,” Azad said.
The former Union minister said he will not raise issues over which he has no control.
“Some people have been saying that I don't talk about Article 370. I want to tell them that Azad does not befool people for electoral gains,” he said while addressing a public meeting at Baramulla in north Kashmir on September 11.
“I swear before God that I will not mislead you. I will not raise such slogans or issues over which I have no control,” he said.
Azad said only a party with a two-thirds majority in Parliament can restore the special status of the erstwhile state which was revoked by the Centre in August 2019.
