KVK, Reasi organizes Awareness Programme on Natural Farming under Jan Abhiyan

Reasi, Oct 28: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized awareness programme on natural farming under Jan Abhiyan: Back to Village Programme (B2V4) here today at Mari village in Reasi distt. of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of farmers of the area.
The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Vice Chancellor, Prof. JP Sharma and able guidance of Director Extension. Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J. After welcoming the participants, Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi gave an overview of the programme and highlighted the need of natural farming in present era. He elaborated the concept of natural farming and urged farmers to adopt natural farming so as to produce the quality food.
He gave a detail view on the four pillars of natural farming and said that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers.
He further said that by the adoption on natural farming farmers can enhance their income with minimum or no input cost. He educated the farmers on the preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit and also guided them on the practices of mulching and Acchadana required for the natural farming.
He narrated that for a healthy society, quality food is required and natural farming can play a significant role for the production of healthy food. He informed that natural farming is beneficial for the maintenance soil health and environment for both human beings and animals.
He also guided farmers on the formation of Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) so that they can reap maximum returns from their farms by eliminating the middlemen. Shilpi Arora, Agriculture Extension Officer, Deptt. of Agriculture, Reasi spoke on different agricultural schemes and programmes and urged farmers to avail the benefits of these schemes and programmes. The farmers asked various quarries regarding the commercial agriculture which were answered satisfactorily by the KVK officials. During the programme, the Ex-Sarpanch of the areaMaheshwar Singh and Ex-ZEO, Balbir Singh were also present. The programme was assisted by Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr. Banarsi Lal with formal vote of thanks.
