Reservation to economically weaker sections significant for social justice: Kavinder | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 7: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister, Kavinder Gupta on Monday hailed the apex court's verdict on 10 percent reservation quota to Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) claiming it to be a significant move to ensure social justice in the country. In a statement issued to the media, the BJP stalwart leader said that the 10 per cent quota to EWS is progressive and could address the issues of educational and income inequality in the country. It is pertinent to mention that the Supreme Court has upheld the validity of the 103rd Constitutional amendment providing 10 per cent reservation to people belonging to economically weaker sections (EWS) in admissions and government jobs. Kavinder Gupta maintained that the country's top court's verdict is historical and will provide justice to the marginalized sections of the society as the same were suffering due to their poor financial standing and other limitations. He said that Modi Government has brought in aforesaid change after carefully analyzing the whole gamut wherein the upper ladder in the reserved category are mainly benefitted from the policy whereas the benefits do not reach the marginalized. He said that now the ball is in the government's court as it has to ensure level playfield for all and provide the succor to the most deserving without taking into consideration their caste, ethnic background or any other criteria because under the aforesaid clause the only criteria is financial standing. Endorsing the SC's verdict, Kavinder said that the top court has rightly observed that reservation on economic background does not violate any essential feature of the Constitution and does not cause any damage to the basic structure of the constitution. He said that all the sections of the society will benefit from this reservation based on financial standing and opposing the same is anti-people stance and those doing the same should revisit their stance by revisiting all the pros and cons of this reservation clause meant for the marginalized sections of all the segments of society. |
