Azad, Abdullahs play hide-and-seek in Doda region

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 9: Even as the Election Commission of India is yet to announce dates for the much-expected Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, two of the former Chief Ministers who are also heads of their respective political parties have been playing hide-and-seek in the Doda region.
While the founding President of Democratic Azad Party, Ghulam Nabi Azad is again on a visit of his native Doda region to hold rallies in the area, prior to him Dr Farooq Abdullah and his team visited the same area for public outreach.
Interestingly, before the weeklong visit of the Abdullahs, it was Azad again who was in the region.
Before floating his own party, Azad had been camping in the region for around a fortnight. Now again he is back to the same area.
Sources said the National Conference is apprehensive of Azad taking advantage in the region and thus its senior leaders including two Member Parliaments, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Justice Retired Hasnain Masoodi apart from NC chief spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq were on the visit of the area.
“The frequent visits of the twin parties into the region shows how much the two are apprehensive of each other,” said a political analyst adding that “the two are playing nothing but hide and seek.”
“If the two parties are so confident of public support in the region why don’t leaders from both the parties opt for parallel shows to make show of strength. Why are they so apprehensive?” he asked.
Its pertinent to mention that since Azad floated his own party, he has been constantly active across Jammu and Kashmir while the National Conference leadership including former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah recently visited Ladakh as well.
The National Conference has nominated incharge for all the forty seven constituencies of Kashmir region, a development which has furthered cracks in the so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration.
