NC-PC taunt each other over Public Safety Act | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 15: The war of words between the National Conference led by Abdullahs and the Peoples Conference led by Sajad Gani Lone has heated up in the wake of the recent statement by the NC that it would revoke the Public Safety Act one day. Ironically while both the NC and PC were allies in the so called Peoples Alliance for Gupkar Declaration, their PAGD “honeymoon” couldn’t last for more than a few weeks as Omar Abdullah and Sajad Lone are known for taking dig at each other. On December 13, former chief minister and National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah said his party would abrogate the PSA when the NC comes to power. “Public Safety Act (PSA) is only in J&K and nowhere in the country. When the NC comes to power, we will remove PSA. We will keep land and jobs for locals. We will safeguard our identity,” Abdullah said. The PC President Sajad Lone reacted sharply saying the assembly of a Union Territory does not have the power to amend or create laws pertaining to public order. “UT assembly just doesn’t have the powers for any such repeal. Lying through their teeth has been one consistent trait of those who scripted such laws,” Lone said. |
