Confusion and Congress | | | Democratic Azad Party (DAP) expelling three top former Congress leaders from the party shows that nothing is permanent in politics. The expulsion of former Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Dr. Manohar Lal, and Thakur Balwan Singh from the DAP has once again triggered a row in the Congress Party. There are reports that the committed Congress leaders in J&K are opposing any significant role for the deserters despite them being senior leaders of the party. After being ousted from power in 2014, the Congress Party in Jammu and Kashmir has remained mired in controversies. It has remained in news for infighting within the party leaders and other reasons. During the past eight years the grand old party of the country has faced complete disintegration as most of its top leaders have changed their loyalties and turf. The three senior leaders who were expelled by the DAP chief, Ghulam Nabi Azad, are likely to rejoin the Congress as they have announced that they would welcome Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra as and when it enters Jammu. All these three leaders are all set to rejoin the Congress Party and are likely to play a key role in the forthcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir. But the point is whether the Congress would be able to make any impact in the forthcoming elections or not? It remains to be seen as it failed to play a role of an effective opposition and didn’t live upto the expectations of the people. If the Congress party has to perform then its leaders will have to give up their egoistic approach and will have to work as a team. If they keep on bullying each other then the chances of their party performing well are bleak. According to the media reports the committed Congress leaders don’t want the party to give important positions to the three deserters who are likely to rejoin their parent party. If these reports are true it means that there would be more friction within the Congress and it would prove detrimental for the interests of the party. The party leadership needs to sort out the differences among the leaders and put its house in order if it really wants to remain relevant in J&K’s political scene. |
