SMC Commissioner’s term over: Deputy Mayor writes to Chief Secy | Municipality Drama? | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 4: In a high drama at the Srinagar Municipal Corporation, its Deputy Mayor, Parvaiz Ahmed Qadri on January 4 shot a formal letter to the Chief Secretary, Dr Arun Kumar Mehta making shocking claims that the “term” of SMC Commissioner has “expired” on December 31, 2022 and that he should be replaced forthwith. The Deputy Mayor said the “special term” of Commissioner was by virtue of “a special order” and that the same order of two year validity expired on December 31, 2022. In his letter to the Chief Secretary, a copy of which lies with the Early Times, Qadri said: “Esteemed Sir. Apropos on the subject cited above, it is to brought into your kind notice that the Principal Secretary to Government Housing & Urban Development Department J&K UT had issued an Notification dated 3rd June-2022 (S.O 271) vide endorsement No. HUD-LSG/SMC/89/2021 (C.No.97681) dated 03/06/2022 the operative part of which is detailed here-in-below.” "In exercise of powers conferred under dection-427 of the Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act, 2000, the Government hereby makes the order called as the Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Corporation (Removal of Difficulties) Order 2022 and shall be deemed to have come into force w.e.f 01.01.2021 and shall remain in force for a period of two years or till it is revoked by the Government, whichever is earlier" (copy of the order is enclosed herewith for ready reference).” The Deputy Mayor added: “As your good self know that the Srinagar Municipal Corporation is an Essential Service department and has to deliver best civic services to its citizens… Since the tenure of the S.0 271 issued vide Notification dated 3rd June 2022 by the Principal Secretary to Government Housing & Urban Development Department which has come into force w.e.f 01/01/2021 for a period of two years has expired on 31st December-2022 and the provisions as laid under section-45 of the Jammu & Kashmir Municipal Corporation Act,2000 are now again made applicable.” “In view of above detailed facts, it is requested to kindly look into the matter and pass necessary instructions to the concerned to take immediate appropriate necessary action in this regard and post a well versed and highly experienced Officer to the Corporation, purely in the interest of the Corporation and Citizens of the Srinagar City,” reads the letter. |
