National Road Safety Week commences | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Jan 11: With an aim of encouraging road safety practices among people in general and drivers/conductors in particular,the Motor vehicles Department Jammu under the overall supervision of Regional Transport Officer, Jammu Pankaj Bhagotra organised a series of awareness programmes here today under ' Road Safety Week - Swachhata Pakhwada' which is to be observed from 11 January to 17 January across the nation. The week long awareness campaign commences with administration of Road Safety Pledge to the employees of RTO office, Presidents of various Transport Unions, drivers and conductors by the RTO Jammu. The main focus of today's awareness programme was imparting education about Stress and Fatigue Management to the truck drivers at Fitness ground by the RTO. Stressing that insufficient sleep can increase the risk of developing various health problems which can impact the level of alertness while driving , the RTO said that the only cure for fatigue is sleep and rest. The RTO also informed the drivers about the different signs of fatigue and asked them not to ignore them while driving. He directed the ARTOs and MVIs to check rear side of trucks about Retroreflective sheeting so that rear collision can be avoided. Besides, the DL applicants who appeared in DL skill test were also made aware about the Road safety by all the Boards of Trial. The programmes conducted on Day 1 of Road Safety week were attended by ARTO BOI ( P) Esha Chib, ARTO (HQ) Mohd Saleem, ARTO BOI (G) Pawan Sharma, ARTO (FS) Taramani, MVI Rajeev Kundal, MVI Ranjeev Bhasin , MVI Anupam Gandotra, Presidents and Representatives of various Transport unions besides drivers, conductors and public in general. |
