Amit Shah discusses J&K Assembly polls | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 13: During his trip to Jammu on January 13, Union Home Minister Amit Shah discussed the situation for holding of the much-awaited Assembly elections in J&K. Top sources said during an “informal interaction with some senior functionaries” in Jammu and Kashmir, the visiting dignitary asked them about the security situation for “potential holding of the polls.” While the decision to hold the elections is to be taken by the election Commission of India, the Union Home Ministry looks ahead to have an overview of the security preparedness. Sources said the issue was discussed for around ten minutes and that he got a “positive feedback.” Recently on January 11, Shah held a closed-door meeting with leaders from Jammu and Kashmir to take stock of issues such as targeted killings of minorities and the ongoing protest by government employees seeking relocation from Kashmir that have emerged as a challenge for the Bharatiya Janata Party as it prepares for assembly elections in the Union Territory. A team of BJP leaders had visited the national capital to hold the meeting with Shah. After the meeting some of the BJP leaders had hinted at holding of elections in the coming months. Meanwhile the Union Home ministry held meeting to review the security situation in the valley which was attended by senior officers of the Armed Forces and intelligence agencies. "We have a plan in place to beef up the security arrangements in the Valley in the next three months. I also assure that Indian Army is capable to handle any situation," Shah told media persons. Before the meeting, he also interacted with one of the aggrieved families. The Union Home Ministry reached the Jammu airport on Friday noon where he was received by Lieutenant-Governor (L-G) Manoj Sinha. Some months ago, defense ministry Rajnath Singh had hinted at holding of the Assembly elections in J&K. |
