Weatherman predicts scattered rain, snowfall for next 2-days in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 4: Weatherman on Saturday predicted rain or snowfall at scattered places for the next two days in Jammu and Kashmir. The meteorological department said for the next 24 hours, the weather would remain mainly dry in J&K with very light rain or snow at one or two places of north Kashmir. Under the western disturbance system, scattered snow/rain is likely mainly over Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh for next two days, officials said. Officials said the minimum temperature saw an increase in several parts of Kashmir last night. Srinagar, recorded a low of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius against minus 0.6 on the previous night. The day temperature on Friday in Srinagar was recorded at 8 degrees Celsius. The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg, in north Kashmir, recorded a low of minus 5.5 degrees Celsius making it the coldest recorded place in the Valley. MeT said the tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 0.9 degrees Celsius. The MeT officials said Qazigund in south Kashmir recorded minimum temperature at minus 3.0 degrees Celsius. The mercury in Kupwara in north Kashmir settled at a low of 1.8 degrees Celsius. The temperature is gradually improving in Jammu division. The minimum temperature in Jammu was 8.9C against 7.2C on the previous night, officials said. MeT said Leh and Kargil weather stations in union territory of Ladakh recorded a low of minus 8.0C and minus 13.2C respectively. Kashmir had witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall on the last day of Valley's harshest 40-day winter period of Chillai Kalan on Monday. The snowfall had prompted suspension of flights at the Srinagar airport and closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway. The services later resumed. |
