Mirchi Lagi: NC-Apni Party war of words heats-up
2/13/2023 10:46:31 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 13: After a brief lull from the side of the National Conference, the grand old party of Kashmir has taken a dig at the Apni Party over the ongoing demolition drive in Jammu and Kashmir.
Breaking its silence since the demolition of the outhouse of the senior NC leader in Srinagar, for which the Apni Party leaders had been allegedly demanding action for many months, the National Conference termed the Apni Party “Hyprocritical”. The Abdullahs however stayed away from the controversy.
“JKNC calls out hypocritical condemnation of demolitions by Apni Party whose mayor is at forefront of harassing Srinagar residents, the Segment In Charges of Srinagar said that the ongoing demolition drive deepening the despair of poor and the rightful land owners,” the National Conference said.
The statement was issued jointly by Ali Muhammad Sagar, Shameema Firdous, Mubarak Gul, Irfan Shah, Salman Sagar, Ahsan Pardesi and Mushtaq Guroo, while the first family of the party –the Abdullahs remained silent.
“The demolition drive has compounded the vulnerabilities of marginalized traders, women, children, senior citizens, socially and economically downtrodden,” the NC said. It’s for the first time in the last several months that the NC has taken Apni Party head on.
The NC had largely been avoiding responding to the allegations leveled by the Apni Party and its supporters. One of the political activists, who is close the Apni Party has been resorting to the name calling of some NC leaders.
But what has triggered gossip in the political circles is as to why the statement issued by the NC has been attributed to a select group of NC leaders while the Abdullahs have been kept away from it.
“This is interesting to see that the NC has issued the statement against Apni Party as being from select group of politicians and not entire party leadership especially the Abdullahs,” said a political observer.
The Apni Party, on the other hand, has been accusing the NC of “making fool of the people” especially over the abrogation of the so called special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The Apni Party claims to be supporting the general cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
