NIA seizes 3 vehicles in terror case involving former DySP

Srinagar, Feb 18: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has seized three vehicles as proceeds of terror in the case regarding recovery and seizure of arms and ammunition from a former J&K Police officer Devender Singh.
Singh, a former Deputy Superintendent of Police was arrested along with three persons including two active militants of the banned Hizbul Mujahideen in 2020 in Kulgam district of south Kashmir from a private vehicle which was intercepted by police. The fourth person in the car was described by the police as an ?overground worker.
The case was initially registered in Police Station Qazigund, Kulgam and it was re-registered by NIA on January 17, 2020. Singh was dismissed from service in 2021.
On February 15, 2023, NIA seized three vehicles u/s 25 (1) of the UA (P), Act which were used by accused persons for the furtherance of terror activities in Kashmir Valley, a spokesperson of the Agency said.
The vehicles seized included a Hyundai i20, a Maruti 800 Car and Hyundai i20 Sportz.
The case pertains to the arrest of four accused persons, including two active militants of Hizbul Mujahideen (HM), who were going out of the union territory of J&K in order to commit terrorist acts, in a Hyundai i20 Car, the NIA said.
?Investigations have revealed that the Hyundai i20 owned and used by accused Irfan Shafi Mir, Maruti 800 registered in the name of Mushtaq Ahmad Shah and used by his son accused Syed Naveed Mushtaq Ahmad Shah, and Hyundai i20 Sportz registered and used by Tanveer Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Ahmad Wani resident of Humhama, Srinagar (J&K), were used for terror activities in Kashmir Valley, the spokesperson said.
NIA said a car was intercepted at Al-Stop naka on Srinagar-Jammu Highway, near Mir Bazar Kulgam on January 11, 2020 and during search, one AK-47 Rifle, three pistols, a hand grenade, ammunition and other incriminating material were recovered and seized.
NIA said further investigations in the case are in progress.
