GGM Science College organizes awareness program on water harvesting | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 23: NSS unit II G.G.M Science College in collaboration with Eco Club organized an awareness program on Clean Water, Sanitation and Water Harvesting under the patronage of worthy Principal Dr. Rajesh Gupta and guidance of NSS PO Dr. Deepali Mahajan and Eco club convenor Prof. Preeti Dogra under the aegis of G 20 India 2023 as a part of Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav. NSS volunteers made slogan on save water, Clean water and Sanitation. Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene is the most basic human need for health and well-being. Decades of misuse, poor management, overextraction of groundwater and contamination of freshwater supplies have exacerbated water stress. Eco club Convenor Prof. Preeti and Prof. Kiran enlightened the NSS volunteers about the water harvest plant installed in the college campus. The term 'water harvesting' generally refers to the collection of rainstorm-generated runoff from a particular area (a catchment) in order to provide water for human, animal, or crop use. By harvesting rainwater, one can cover up to 50% of a family's typical household water usage - this translates into savings on bills whilst helping the environment. The two main ways of harvesting rainwater are collecting it from roofs and collecting surface runoff-the water that flows off and when it rains. When this water is harvested it can be used for farming and domestic activities. After water is harvested from various watersheds, it is conveyed to storage reservoirs. NSS volunteers took the pledge to save water and to spread the awareness among the community. |
