JAMMU, Feb 23: Voters meet was organized in the open lawns of J&K High Court today by the Voters Corner. All the candidates contesting for the office of J&K High Court Bar Association Jammu presented their views. Gathering of over one thousand advocates took part in three hours long session. Convener of the Voters Corner, HC Jalmeria Advocate conducted the proceedings.
The massive gathering of lawyers and others visitors in the lawns of the High Court was mesmerized with the sweet melody of flute of Rakesh Anand added by Dogri,Gojri and Pahari songs presented by Sheikh Shakil Ahmed, Nidhi Kaila advocates and noted singer Bashir Mastana.
Advocates K.Nirmal Kotwal, Sachin Gupta, Surinder Kour & Vikram Sharma (contesting for president), Amit Gupta, Jasvinder Singh (Jassi) & Monish Chopra (contesting for vice president), Ajay Bakshi & Parvesh Singh Salaria (contesting for General Secretary), Chetan Misri & Shiv Dev Thakur (contesting for joint secretary) and Gourab Arora, Sohail Bharti, Utkarash Pathania and Vikram Singh Sohil (contesting for treasurer) all addressed the voters advocates from one platform. The entire programme remained pleasant and peaceful.
The issues of non conducting of election to the J&K Bar Council, The proposal of shifting of High Court from present location and segregating the Jammu District Courts and Non construction of multi-story building for housing registration, CAT, Consumer Courts, Armed Forces Tribunal, Human Rights Commission etc remained on top focus of discussion in the meeting besides other issues concerning the lawyers and facilities in the Court premises.
The contestants assured the voters of their commitment to carry the resolutions of Bar on these issues.
Jalmeria was assisted by a committee comprising AV Gupta Sr Advocate, SS Ahmed, Gourab Sharma, Mohd Zulkarnain Choudhary, PS Pawar, Arvind Bandral, BS Jamwal, Supriya Chouhan, Vasharan Thakur, Amarvir Manhas, Vir Ranshor, Narinder Sharma, Arvind Jalmeria advocates.
This unique but very effective programme of conducting voters meet has been continuously carried on by the VOTERS CORNER for about thirty five years and is greatly appreciated by the lawyers.
Jalmeria in his address suggested such system to be adopted by Election Commission of India in all elections. This can drastically reduce electoral expenses and can bring transparency and accountability in electoral process which is at the base of real democracy.
