Azad’s son Saddam to focus on Kashmir politics | | | Sanjay Pandita
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Feb 28: Even as veteran politician, Ghulam Nabi Azad’s son Saddam recently joined his father led Democratic Progressive Azad Party or DPAP, the young man will be focusing on Kashmir. Saddam, who joined politics in Srinagar on February 26 at a youth convention hosted by DPAP at Nigeen Club had been staying away from politics like the rest of the family members. But the sources said senior DPAP leaders and Azad’s family convinced Saddam that he should join politics to assist his father. Though 41-year-old Saddam didn’t speak at his maiden entry in the party, he is set to focus on Kashmir. Sources said Azad will be focusing more on Jammu province and in Delhi and that Saddam would look after party affairs mainly in Kashmir. The sources said Saddam has been asked to visit far flung areas of Kashmir for public outreach. The sources said he would be working under the supervision of senior party leaders from Kashmir including “Taj Mohi Ud Din and youth leaders like Salman Nizami, who are aware of the party needs in Kashmir province.” The sources said the party has told Azad that the father son duo should focus strategically. “Azad Ji enjoys good public following everywhere but he (Saddam) being young should explore Kashmir,” the sources said. Saddam, a businessman, is the eldest among the two siblings of Ghulam Nabi Azad. He has studied in England. While Saddam would live in Delhi, it’s likely that he may shift to Kashmir along with his family in the coming week. The sources said initially Saddam would work for the youth wing of the party and that his elevation would be decided by the party seniors in consultation with Azad. In a tweet, Azad has already expressed happiness over his son’s entry into politics and expressed hope that he would live up to the expectations of the people. "Attended a youth interaction programme at Srinagar. Listening to our youth and creating diverse job opportunities for them will be my priority if voted to power. I am glad to see my son Saddam Azad actively joining politics. I hope he lives upto people's expectations!" Azad Twitted. |
