MIER holds symposium on cultural practices for sustainable environment | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 4: The Co-curricular Committee and Environment Unit of MIER College of Education in collaboration with the Department of Information and Public Relations organized a symposium and cultural event on the theme 'Cultural Practices for Sustainable Environment'. Parul Khajuria (KAS), Cultural Officer, Department of Information, and Public Relations was the chief guest of the event. Dr. Adit Gupta, Director and Principal MIER College extended a warm welcome to the chief guest, artists, participants, and faculty members. Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Gupta thanked the chief guest for involving educational institutions in showcasing cultural heritage through music, cultural practices and connecting it with sustainable development. He said both the seeds of culture and environment needs to be sown for long term sustainable development. He wished all the participants and artists all the best for the event. The judges for the symposium were Monika Bajaj, Deputy HoD UG Dept. and Dr. Bharti Tandon, Associate Professor, PG Dept. MIER College of Education. Around 10 students participated in the symposium. Based on the results given by the jury, Aditi Mahajan and Nandika Srivastava of BA Honours Psychology, Semester I clinched the first position and second position respectively whereas Naman Mansotra, BA Honours Psychology, Semester III secured the third position. All the participants were awarded with the certificates of merit and trophies. In addition to the symposium a lively cultural programme was presented by artists of cultural unit Jammu and students of the college which was very much appreciated by the audience. In her remarks, Parul Khajuria appreciated that the efforts and enthusiastic participation of all the participants both in the symposium and the cultural items. She emphasized that we need to revive our cultural practices, be it the use of banana leaves for eating or celebration of festivals, to save flora and fauna of region or recycling, reusing and up-cycling clothes and other products to save the environment. She highlighted that our cultural practices form the pillars of sustainable development. She said there are many frameworks for achieving sustainable development goals but we need to change the mindset to accelerate their accomplishment. The programme was organized under the guidance of Komal Sharma, Convener of Co-Curricular Committee, Suman Gupta, In-charge Environmental Unit and Saloni Singh, member, Co-curricular Committee. Naman Mansotra, student of B.A Hons. Psychology Semester III ably conducted the programme and a formal vote of thanks was proposed by Anjali Jain, student of B.Ed. Semester 1. |
