Cong rebels on crossroads | | | Ex-loyalists of former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad are finding it hard to regain their lost positions in the Congress Party. They are paying a heavy price for quitting the “Grand Old Party” and then rejoining it. These leaders had joined Democratic Azad Progressive Party as soon as Azad had floated it. But they rejoined the Congress after Rahul Gandhi arrived with Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir. After their Ghar Wapsi these leaders have not got the desired response from the Congress leaders in J&K. They have been sidelined and are being treated as traitors. According to media reports the sidelined Congress leaders are knocking at the doors of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to rebuild their shattered political careers. As of now, BJP leadership has not shown much interest in taking these leaders in the party who have backstabbed their political mentor Ghulam Nabi Azad. If the Congress rebels part ways again it would mean more trouble for party in Jammu and Kashmir. Azad leaving the Congress Party has already created a big void in the “Grand Old Party” and veteran leaders leaving it after rejoining can further hamper the prospects of the party. Since the day these leaders have rejoined the Congress, they are not being any roles and are being looked down upon. Recently the Congress leaders had taken to social media to fight it out and had leveled serious allegations against each other. The Congress high command had asked the J&K leaders to make the rebels comfortable and bury the hatchet but it seems that the J&K unit of the Congress Party is pushing them to wall by not providing them with enough space to make a comeback. As a mark of protest these leaders have remained absent from the ongoing protest of the party against policies of the Union Government. It appears that the Congress rebels and the ones who didn’t leave the party want the Congress high command to come clear on who will be given the mandate to contest the elections. In a nut shell the Congress Party in J&K is in a mess and nothing seems to be going in its way. Azad’s decision to quit the Congress Party stands vindicated and his party is emerging as a viable alternative in the political arena of Jammu and Kashmir. |
