Arrest of two PoJK drug smugglers on LoC: Names of local contacts likely to be revealed | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Apr 9: The ongoing campaign of security forces against narco-terrorism achieved a big success today when the Army captured alive two infiltrators who were trying to sneak into this side of the Line of Control (LoC) with narcotics. Three infiltrators were trying to sneak into this side of LoC from the Poonch sector. One of them was killed by the Army while two were captured alive. According to the defence spokesperson in the search operation so far three bags with fourteen packets of narcotics weighing approx 17 kilograms, Pakistan currency, some documents, and eatables have been recovered. During preliminary questioning, the two intruders who have been apprehended alive, have claimed that they (all three) are residents of Pakistan Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (POJK) and belong to Maidan Mohalla, village Chanjal. Notably, foiling another infiltration attempt on the Line of Control, troops of the Indian Army killed one intruder and captured two alive in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir during the intervening night of April 8 and 9. It is believed that with the arrest of two drug smugglers of PoJK, security forces are likely to get a big breakthrough, especially regarding their local links who are part and parcel of narco-terrorism. Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a 2000 percent surge in heroin-related drug seizures between 2017 and 2022—from 3,000 to more than 10,000. As per the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), there has been a more than 75 percent decrease in net infiltration from across the border between 2018 and 2021 and more than 80 per cent reduction in the number of terrorist incidents during the same period. Despite such efforts by the security forces in eliminating those infiltrating the Line of Control, the drug menace has not abated. |
