Jammu, May 8 : Highlighting the recent developments on “New Advances In Uro-Onco & Robotic Surgeries” Medanta Institute of Urology organized Scientific Interactive Program (CME) in Jammu under their Continuous Medical Education Program, wherein Dr. Puneet Ahluwalia; Director & Head-Uro-Onco logy & Robotic Surgery , was in the city of temples to share their experiences at the Continuous Medicine Education (CME) program on the topic “Robotic Surgery in Urology Cancer (Past, Present & Future)”, held at Hotel Radisson Blu last night.
Dr C.L. Gupta (Former HOD GMC Jammu & ASCOMS Hospital ) 1st Urologist From Jammu , presided the function as Chief Guest,. The technical session was chaired jointly by Dr. Suresh Saraf; Former HOD Urology, and Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Prof & HOD Radiaton Oncology of Jammu and Kashmir.
The keynote speaker from host Medanta Hospital Gurugram, Dr. Puneet Ahluwalia spoke on the subject ““Robotic Surgery in Urology Cancer (Past, Present & Future)”” with special reference to J&K and discussed various available treatments of complicated Prostate Cancer Surgery/ Robotic Radical Prostatectomy ,Bladder Cancer Surgery/ Robotic Radical Cystectomy with Robotic Urinary diversions, Kidney Cancer Surgery/ Robotic Radical And Partial Nephrectomy ,Adrenal tumors/ Testicular tumor/ Penile tumor surgery, Robotic Lymph node dissection/ Retroperitoneal node .
Dr. Ahluwalia shared his experience on 5 major advancements in Robotic Uro-Onco Surgeries from his over 1000 complex robotic surgeries apart from laparoscopic, endoscopic and conventional open surgeries for urological cancers.
Dr Ahluwalia in his address shared that now a days Urological cancer surgeries in which Robot is used include Robotic Radical prostatectomy (removal of the prostate gland for cancer), Robotic partial nephrectomy (surgical removal of tumor of kidney while preserving the normal part of kidney), Robotic Radical Cystectomy with Urinary diversion (Removal of cancerous urinary bladder while constructing the pathway for urinary passage by using part of intestines), Robotic Radical Nephrectomy (removal of whole of cancerous kidney when part of it can’t be saved), Robotic Nephroureterectomy and Robotic Adrenalectomy.
He said Advances in Urological Robotic Surgeries offer offers benefits of Robotic surgery includes precise surgery, lesser bleeding and faster recovery for Patients. speedier recoveries & Novel Technologies in Advance Robotic Surgeries Benefit Senior Age Group of Patients, while sharing their experiences with the gathering of Medical faculty & Civil Society from Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention that Dr. Puneet Ahluwalia is a Director & Head of Uro Oncology and Robotic Surgery at Medanta The Medicity, Gurugram, India. He is one of the first few clinical fellowship trained robotic surgeons since the inception of Robotic Surgery in India. He brings in vast experience in the field of advanced robotic surgery for treatment of urological cancers from topmost national and international institutes.
He has to his credit one year clinical Fellowship in Minimal Invasive Urology (Robotic Surgery). He also has experience from top international institutes in UroOncology (Japan) and has further experience of advanced Robotic training from University of Miami, Miller school of Medicine, USA.
Dr Ahluwalia is one of the very few certified proctors for Intuitive surgicals USA (Da Vinci Robots) in the country and has been instrumental in setting up robotic Urooncology program at various centers in India.
He is also a Program Director for prestigious one year clinical fellowship in Robotic UroOncology recognized by Urological society of India & directs a one year clinical robotic training program for post superspeciality fellows.
The CME Concluded with Honoring Dr C L Gupta with Mementos Shawl for Life Time Achievement for rendering their Services for mankind to help the needy and poor patients whosoever comes to them for treatment. Mementos also presented to to Dr Suresh Saraf &,Dr Ashutosh Gupta who graced the program as Chairperson for the Session. Speaker of the Session Dr Puneet Ahluwalia was also presented Mementos By Sh. Manmohan Singh- Chairman ,Care India Foundation (An Associate Partner of Medanta Hospital In J&K).
The CME was witnessed by Sr. Consultants from GMC Jammu, State Cancer Institute, ASCOMS, AOI, SMVDNH & DHS Jammu. Registrars & PG students from GMC participated actively in Question Answer session. Program was well conducted by Dr. Gaurav Vaid, a renowned Physiotherapist from Jammu
