Farmers backbone of J&K’s economy, work tirelessly to ensure food security: LG Sinha | Addresses Kisan Sampark Abhiyan at Budgam | | Early Times Report
BUDGAM, May 16: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the Kisan Sampark Abhiyan today at Panchayat Hardapanzoo, Budgam. During the event, the Lt Governor highlighted the orientation and training program aimed at facilitating the seamless implementation of 29 projects under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP). He emphasized that this program will further strengthen the agriculture and allied sectors, contributing to the goal of inclusive growth. Acknowledging the significant contribution of farmers to the progress of Jammu and Kashmir, the Lt Governor called upon society to honor the hard work of the 70% population dependent on agriculture. He recognized them as the backbone of the region, working tirelessly to ensure food security despite numerous challenges. Expressing optimism about the future of farming, the Lt Governor mentioned the fast-paced progress in reviving the agriculture and allied sectors in the last three years. He believed that this progress will inspire more youth to take up farming and contribute to building a better future for generations to come. The Lt Governor also highlighted the key features of the Holistic Agriculture Development Program, emphasizing its focus on enhancing the capacity of small and marginal farmers. The program aims to improve their access to technology, institutional credit, domestic and international markets, as well as develop critical infrastructure such as post-harvest processing facilities. Furthermore, the Lt Governor mentioned various initiatives implemented to strengthen the agri-economy and deliver socio-economic benefits to small and marginal farmers. These include Rural Business and Service Hubs that provide critical inputs and market interventions to ensure direct benefits for farmers. Congratulating the farmers of Budgam for their efforts in transforming the agricultural landscape of the district, the Lt Governor reaffirmed the government’s commitment to support farmers engaged in the cultivation of exotic vegetables, niche crops, medicinal plants, high-density cultivation, and floriculture. He highlighted the establishment of hi-tech poly greenhouses, mushroom units, and vegetable clusters in the district, leading to significant exports of vegetables. Addressing local issues, the Lt Governor assured the community that the administration is actively working towards their welfare, including the initiation of work on the District Hospital for Budgam. The event was attended by Sh. Nazir Ahmed Khan, Chairperson of DDC Budgam, Sh. Atal Dulloo, Additional Chief Secretary of the Agriculture Production Department, Prof. Nazir Ah. Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Kashmir, along with other officials and farmers. The Lt Governor also felicitated progressive farmers during the event. |
