Union Government introduces Bharat Pashudhan-National Digital Livestock Mission in J&K | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 21: The Government of India has announced the implementation of the Bharat Pashudhan-National Digital Livestock Mission (NDLM) in Jammu and Kashmir, selecting it among six states and union territories for the program. This mission aims to create a farmer-centric ecosystem driven by technology, including the establishment of a digital livestock database in Jammu & Kashmir and improved farmer services. Under the NDLM, a unique 12-digit barcoded tag ID will be assigned to all bovines and small ruminants, playing a crucial role in the universal Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) vaccination process. The existing INAPH system will be replaced with a new digital platform to effectively address the challenges faced by veterinarians, paravets, and stakeholders in utilizing the IT-based system. Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) of the Agriculture Production Department (APD), Atal Dulloo, expressed gratitude for Jammu & Kashmir being selected for the program and emphasized the seamless transition of data from INAPH to NDLM. The mission’s primary objective is to actively engage farmers in the digital ecosystem and maximize the utilization of data for disease prediction, analysis, and prevention. District Nodal Officers will receive training from NDLM trainers on May 23rd and subsequently conduct multiple training sessions for INAPH users and stakeholders in the Union Territory. The integration of data will facilitate the creation of a breeding program focused on high-quality germplasm suitable for diverse agroclimatic conditions in Jammu & Kashmir. The NDLM portal will also play a crucial role in implementing the Dairy Development project of the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP). It features an inbuilt ration balancing and milk recording module to assist in ration balancing and milk recording for dairy animals. The program aims to establish a comprehensive open-source, API-integrated database that records crucial information about each tagged animal in real-time. The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, in collaboration with the National Dairy Development Board, has conceptualized the initiative under the guidance of the office of the Principal Scientific Advisor, Government of India. Bharat Pashudhan envisions a cloud-based, secure, and integrated database system built on open-source architecture, connecting all stakeholders for efficient information exchange. The primary objective of NDLM is to empower farmers by providing technological tools to fully utilize government facilities and avail livestock-related services. The integration of data will ensure complete product traceability and facilitate disease monitoring and control. It will also contribute to boosting dairy and livestock exports and enable disease modeling, prediction, analysis, and further research. The upgrade of the e-Gopala app will provide farmers with essential information about their animals and access services like Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) and e-rupi based facilities. |
