Omar Abdullah appreciates new Parliament building, NC to boycott inauguration | Pyar Ka Wada Fifty Fifty! | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, May 27: A day after the National Conference decided to boycott the inauguration of the new Parliament building in New Delhi, senior NC leader and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah appreciated the construction exposing the “dilemma and balancing tactics within the grand old party.” “Setting aside the brouhaha about the inauguration for a moment, this building is a welcome addition. The old Parliament House has served us well but as someone who has worked there for a few years, a lot of us often spoke amongst ourselves about the need for a new & improved parliament building. Better late than never is all I’ll say & this one looks pretty damn impressive,” Omar said on his social media handle on May 26. Earlier, on May 25, the NC had announced the boycott. “We will not be attending this event. This is really unfair that the President is not being called for the inauguration of the new building of the Parliament House. Many are saying that earlier also such incidents happened but I would say in the past only a part of Parliament was inaugurated by them. But now the whole new building is to be inaugurated. The President has the right to attend this event,” Hasnain Masoodi, NC MP told media. Observers said the “contradictory stand” of the National Conference towards the new Parliament has “exposed how divided the party is.” “How can it happen that the Member Parliament of the party announces boycott and the very next day the Abdullah family scion speaks otherwise to appease BJP,” said a political analyst. He said such utterances of Omar Abdullah only reflect his “immaturity or ignorance towards the party policies.” “He seems to be unaware of the party stand on the issue. Now imagine if this bombshell was dropped by some other leader from the same party. By now explanation would have been sought for misconduct and indiscipline,” said the observer. Despite repeated attempts the NC leaders couldn’t be contacted for comments. |
