Judicial Academy organizes sensitization workshop on Animal Laws | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 3: The J&K Judicial Academy conducted a one-day Sensitization Workshop on 'Animal Laws' for judicial officers and prosecuting officers of Jammu Province at the Judicial Academy, Jammu. Under the patronage of Justice N Kotiswar Singh, Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, and guidance from Justice Sindhu Sharma, Chairperson of the Governing Committee for J&K Judicial Academy, the workshop aimed to enhance the knowledge of participants regarding animal laws and their application in daily work. The training program was inaugurated by Justice Rahul Bharti, Judge of the High Court of J&K and Ladakh, in the presence of D.C. Raina, Advocate General of UTs of J&K and Ladakh. Gauri Maulekhi, a leading expert on animal welfare laws, served as the resource person for the workshop, which was conducted by Y.P. Bourney, Director of J&K Judicial Academy. During the workshop, Justice Rahul Bharti emphasized the importance of law in promoting harmony between humans and the environment. He highlighted the significance of animals in our society and their rights as mentioned in religious texts. He shared real-life experiences and discussed relevant case laws, emphasizing the purpose of such training programs in enhancing the knowledge of judicial and law officers. In his remarks, D.C. Raina emphasized the reverence for animals in various religions and cultures, underscoring their importance in our ecosystem. He stressed the need for animal-friendly practices and timely intervention in cases of cruelty towards animals. Y.P. Bourney welcomed the participants and emphasized the deep bond between humans and animals throughout history. He highlighted the importance of understanding and implementing laws for the protection of animals from acts of cruelty. The workshop included technical sessions where Gauri Maulekhi provided an introduction to animal protection laws and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. She discussed the challenges posed by hunting, poaching, and commercial exploitation of animals, as well as the need to preserve ecological balance and prevent species extinction. The vote of thanks was proposed by Rajni Sharma, Special Mobile Magistrate (T), Jammu. Overall, the workshop aimed to create awareness and promote a better understanding of animal laws among the participants. |
