High Court directs UT to complete selection of MS in GMC | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 3: The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, comprising Justice Tashi Rabstan and Justice Puneet Gupta, issued a direction to the UT of J&K to initiate and conclude the selection process of a Medical Superintendent on a substantive basis in Government Medical College, Jammu within a period of four weeks. This directive came in response to a LPA filed against the judgment of the Central Administrative Tribunal, which had quashed the appointment of Dr. Narinder Singh Bhutyal as the Medical Superintendent. During the hearing, both sides were given an opportunity to present their arguments, and notices were issued to the respondents. The Court directed the UT of J&K to initiate and complete the selection process within four weeks and submit the compliance report by the next date of hearing, which is June 14, 2023. The Court also acknowledged that the CAT order did not specify who would perform the duties as the I/c (in charge) Medical Superintendent, GMC Jammu, after quashing the appointment. In order to ensure smooth functioning of the administration and optimal patient care, Dr. Narinder Singh Bhutyal was permitted to continue as the I/c Medical Superintendent on a temporary basis until the next date of hearing. Contempt proceedings filed by Dr. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, who is a respondent in the writ petitions, were deferred in view of the directions issued by the Court. |
