Unauthorized vehicles pose safety threat to tourists in Katra | | | Early Times Report KATRA, June 9: Unauthorized vehicles operating in the popular tourist destination of Katra Vaishno Devi have become a serious safety concern, putting the lives of tourists at risk. Local authorities are urged to take immediate action to ensure the safety of visitors. The shrine of Vaishno Devi attracts a large number of devotees and tourists from across the country and abroad. Concerns have been raised by locals and taxi associations regarding the unauthorized operation of mini buses and Matador 407 vehicles without route permits. These vehicles transport passengers to various tourist destinations, including Patnitop and Shivkhori. The responsibility for monitoring and preventing the operation of unauthorized vehicles lies with the district police in Katra. Despite repeated complaints and requests from the taxi association, these vehicles continue to operate without the necessary permits. Tragic incidents in Shivkhori involving unpermitted vehicles have resulted in the loss of innocent lives in the past. Despite the presence of multiple police checkpoints in the area, these unauthorized vehicles seem to ply without interruption. Key checkpoints include Saidli on the Mansar route, Painthal, Namai, Serli, and BanGanga on the Reasi road. The fact that these unpermitted vehicles are carrying passengers raises concerns about a possible nexus between the Katra police and transporters. Efforts to contact the Station House Officer (SHO) Katra for comments on the matter were unsuccessful. Local taxi drivers have expressed their concerns and called for an inquiry into the continued operation of these unpermitted vehicles, endangering the lives of passengers. Ensuring the safety and well-being of tourists and devotees should be a top priority for the authorities. Immediate action is necessary to seize these unauthorized vehicles and prevent further accidents or loss of life. The district police must address the concerns raised by the taxi association and restore confidence in the safety of transportation for visitors to Katra Vaishno Devi. |
