Jammu, June 9: Government Medical College Jammu, in collaboration with Art of Living, organized the “Har Ghar Dhyan” workshop under the patronage of Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal and Dean of Government Medical College Jammu. The workshop was held for faculty members, senior residents, MBBS students, and PG students at the college auditorium and NMC Hall. Around 150 medical students from all professions, UGs, and PGs, along with over 35 HODs, faculty members, and senior residents, attended the meditation session. The Art of Living Foundation, founded by Gurudev Shri Shri Ravi Shankar in 1981, is a volunteer-based humanitarian and educational non-governmental organization (NGO) with centers in 180 countries. As part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav initiative, the Ministry of Culture has collaborated with Art of Living to promote mental health awareness and empower individuals with the practice of meditation for better health. The project, launched on October 26, 2022, at the international headquarters of Art of Living in Bangalore, has conducted over 10,000 meditation sessions across the country. This scheme implements the Jan-Bhagidari model to empower youth towards better health and create a more resilient future for the country. The workshop was conducted by Sh. Rohit Ranjan, Institutional Programme Director and an international faculty member of Art of Living. As a soft skill trainer, he teaches stress elimination and self-development programs in prestigious institutions such as JNU, DU, AIIMS, IITs, B Schools, Jamia Millia Islamia, and BHU. He has notable experience in youth engagement and deaddiction interventions. Mr. Ranjan led both sessions at GMC Jammu. The workshop began with a welcome address by Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal and Dean of Government Medical College Jammu. She emphasized the importance of such sessions and practices in the current times. Dr. Sharma discussed upcoming programs at GMC, including the onset of International Yoga Day and national directives and NMC guidelines to address the stress faced by medical students and professionals. Rohit Ranjan eloquently explained how lifestyle changes, including meditation, pranayama, and stress-relieving practices, can boost immunity, relieve stress, anxiety, and depression, enhance the ability to manage the mind, and increase Prana Shakti for professionals working in demanding roles. The practice of meditation aims to maintain mental hygiene and achieve a calm mind, focused attention, good concentration, improved communication skills, unshakable inner strength, healing powers, relaxation, and rejuvenation. He conducted a short but powerful meditation session for the faculty members, senior residents, MBBS students, and PG students. The participants expressed feeling relaxed and positive after the session. Ajay Kapoor, State Coordinator of Art of Living Bureau of Communications and Projects in J&K UT, was also present for both sessions. Dr. Seema Gupta, Professor and Head of the Department of Pharmacology at GMC Jammu, Dr. Rajeev Gupta, Professor & HoD of the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Professor & Head of the Department of Orthopaedics, Dr. Anju Jamwal, Professor and Head of the Department of Anaesthesia, and Dr. Fayaz Wani, HoD of the Department of Medicine, also attended the faculty sessions and expressed their appreciation for the workshop. |
