Canal near Shastri Nagar turns into garbage dumping site | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 10: The Canal (Nehar) which passes through Jammu city and is an important source of water has become a dumping site near Shastri Nagar. The picturesque Canal (Nehar) near Shastri Nagar has been reduced to a dumping ground for garbage. “Shastri Nagar is one the posh colony in Jammu city and the authorities are duty bound to keep the Canal clean,” said a resident. He said, “This water is used for different purposes but the dumping of garbage has made it toxic. If the authorities don’t pay attention towards the issue it can spell doom.” He said, “A thriving waterway that adds to the beauty of the Jammu city is under threat and authorities need to wake up.” “The serene Canal (Nehar) is fast transforming into an eyesore due to the rampant dumping of garbage,” he added. Residents urged the officials to get the portion of Canal cleaned near Shastri Nagar so that water doesn’t become toxic. |
