Kashmir political parties all set to dump ‘unpopular’ leaders | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 21: Peoples Conference expelling a senior leader from the party for his alleged involvement in the anti-party activities has once again triggered the speculations that another political party could be formed in Kashmir. According to sources a few disgruntled leaders in PC and Apni Party have already made up their mind to float the new party and are waiting for a nod from New Delhi. Sources said that PC leadership took a tough decision to expel the senior leader after conducting an extensive survey in the constituency of the expelled leader. “There is a widespread dissatisfaction among the electorate towards his actions in this constituency,” sources alleged. Pertinently, the expelled leader had won two Assembly elections from the Sangrama constituency characterized by narrow margins. In 2008, his victory was by a mere 1,330 votes, which further dwindled to approximately 1,050 votes in 2014. Sources claimed that political parties are conducting extensive surveys in the areas of former legislators to ensure that no wrong candidate gets a mandate to contest the election. “Whenever assembly elections are held mandates to the candidates will be given to them on the basis of the popularity and chances to win the polls,” they added. Sources said that a few former legislators have become so unpopular during the past few years that even if they contest Panchayat elections they won’t win. “No party would like to field lame horses,” they said. According to media reports the disgruntled senior politicians in PC and Apni Party have already floated their idea to form a new party which has annoyed their party leaders. “The Peoples Conference by expelling a senior leader has made a beginning. It seems that in coming days other parties may also follow the suit. Group of leaders that are mulling to form a new party are aware of the fact that the political parties which they had left won’t take them back, so forming their own party is the only option,” said an observer. |
