Sensing trouble, Dr Abdullah skips Panta meet, sends son instead | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 23: Seemingly apprehending trouble in the multi-crore cricket scam, former Chief Minister and Member Parliament, Dr Farooq Abdullah skipped the opposition meeting in Patna on June 23 as he send his son and successor Omar Abdullah instead. On Friday, the opposition meeting in the Bihar capital, from the side of the National Conference, was attended by Omar Abdullah, who reached the venue holding his suitcase in his hand. In the last few months otherwise, Dr Abdullah, who is also the party president had been attending all the national level meetings including those called by the central government or by the opposition parties. However, for the Patna meeting which on behalf of the PDP as attended by its President Mehbooba Mufti, from the NC was attended by the Vice President. Observers believe that the Dr Abdullah could be apprehending “trouble in the multi-crore cricket scam”. On July 26, 2022, the Enforcement Directorate had filed a supplementary chargesheet against former J-K Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association Fund scam. A Special PMLA Court had taken cognizance of the complaint and issued notices to the accused persons for appearance before the PMLA Special Court on August 27, 2022. “Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has filed a supplementary Prosecution Complaint under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act, 2002 (PMLA), before the Special PMLA Court, Srinagar, against Dr Farooq Abdullah, Ahsan Ahmad Mirza, Mir Manzoor Gazanffer And others on June 4, 2022,” the official statement had said. Meanwhile several opposition leaders gathered in Bihar's capital Patna on Friday for a crucial meeting aimed at establishing unity ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar hosted the meeting, which includes the participation of various political parties such as Congress, Trinamool Congress (TMC), Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), Shiv Sena (UBT), Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK), Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), Samajwadi Party (SP), National Conference (NC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), CPI, CPM, CPI ML, Janata Dal United (JDU), and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). The objective of the gathering is to foster collaboration among the opposition parties. |
