Early Times Report SRINAGAR, June 24: J&K can expect some respite from the heatwave as the weather system is likely to bring showers over the region starting Sunday evening, the Met office said on Saturday. The weather office in Srinagar said J&K is likely to get intermittent rain or thunderstorms during the evening of June 25 to 28. "Some places in J&K may receive heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning," the weather office said. On Friday, Srinagar sizzled in extreme heat as the temperature soared to 35 ?C, making it the hottest June day in 18 years. This matched the previous record set on June 3, 2018, when the temperature also reached 35 ?C. Over the last three weeks, the temperature in Srinagar and other parts of the valley has seen a steep rise. On June 1, Srinagar recorded a temperature of 18.3 ?C, and on Friday, the temperature was 35.0?C. Last night, Srinagar recorded a temperature of 22.4 ?C, making it the highest minimum temperature in June in 15 years. According to an independent weather forecaster, this temperature reading ranks as the fourth-highest minimum temperature in the last 45 years. |
