Kashmir netas kept away from Amit Shah function | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 24: In a strong message to the political parties based in Kashmir, none of their leaders were invited to share dais with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah during the inauguration of the three day Vitasta Festival in Kashmir on June 23. Sources said some of the politicians from the parties in Kashmir, which are close to the BJP and even enjoy prominent positions in the local urban bodies, were desirous of sharing the podium with the visiting dignitary. Sources said some of the leaders from the Apni Party led by Altaf Bukhari in particular were looking ahead to be invited to rub shoulders with Shah at the SKICC where the event was held. However, from the Jammu and Kashmir government, only the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta were present on the podium. The other dignitaries were from the central government. Sources said some of the politicians even from the Peoples Conference were hopeful to be part of the celebrations but that New Delhi has taken firm stand on Kashmir. “BJP government won’t allow anyone to misuse its image for minting personal fortunes. Most of such appeasers face serious charges and such faces cannot be given space,” said a political analyst. Some of the senior leaders of the BJP including their party President for Jammu and Kashmir Ravinder Raina were part of the celebrations. The sources said a number of Kashmiri politicians had tried hard that they be given space with Amit Shah. “They were making request to be given space as elected representatives but still such appeasement was not given any space and this sends a big message,” said one observer. Pertinently, Amit Shah was on a two-day visit of Jammu and Kashmir. After attending a rally in Jammu, he spent night in Kashmir. On the second day of his visit he laid foundation stone for memorial in Srinagar before leaving for the national capital. |
