Kalakaar: When dreams clash with reality - A captivating Hindi play | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 25: The Natrang Studio's weekly Sunday Theatre series featured the Hindi play "Kalakaar," written by Bhagwati Charan Verma and directed by Neeraj Kant. While laced with comedy, the play conveyed a poignant message to the audience, delivered with artistic finesse. The storyline revolves around two friends, 'Churamani' and 'Martand,' both talented artists-an aspiring poet and a painter, respectively. Their dreams of conquering Bollywood with their creative prowess quickly unravel as they find themselves trapped in a dingy room, unable to pay the rent for the past six months. In order to escape their landlord's harassment, they are forced to channel their creativity into fabricating stories and situations. The play masterfully portrays the tragic plight of creative individuals, compelled to waste their artistic potential merely to survive. The story unfolds as the poet and painter lock themselves in the room, desperately attempting to fend off the landlord's persistent demands for rent. The two friends rely on their imaginative minds to conjure up logical excuses, aiming to impress the landlord and secure more time to pursue their unfulfilled dreams. They spin tales of transforming the rented room into a prestigious museum, once hosting legendary geniuses from the worlds of poetry and painting. However, the landlord remains unconvinced, recognizing the vast chasm between their dreams and reality. He evicts them, exposing them to further rejection and society's apathy. It is at this moment that both artists realize the harsh truth-despite a rich cultural heritage spanning thousands of years, the world seems ill-suited for creative souls.
