College raises awareness on drug abuse, illicit trafficking | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, June 26: The NSS Unit of GDC, Ukhral in collaboration with Debates and Seminar Committee of the College organised an awareness programme to observe the "International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking" under the aegis of "Azadi Ka Amrit Mohatsav" and "Nasha Mukht Bharat Abhiyan". The theme of the year 2023, is "People First: Stop Stigma and Discrimination, Strengthen Prevention". It emphasises the importance of removing the obstacles without any discrimination towards drugs abusers and to ensure their physical and mental health. The programme was organised with the aim to aware the students and masses about the abuses of consuming of various kind of drugs and its trafficking. The Patron of the College, Prof. (Dr) Sahllu Samyal in her message impressed upon the students to spread the awareness about the harmful impact of drugs and identify the people who are consuming drugs in any form. Prof. Suresh Chander in his lecture, extensively threw light on the harmful effects of consuming drugs and the perils associated with it. He said that drugs can lead to severe health issues, addiction, accidents and even to death. A large number of students and faculty members participated in this program. On this occasion, a pledge ceremony was also organised in the College Campus. As the menace of drug abuse is looming large, the programme was organised with the aim of correcting the bleak future of our young generation. Those who were present include Prof Iftikhar Hussain Lone, Mr. Akash Verma, R. K thakur. The proceedings were done by Prof Zakir Hussain- the NSS Programme Officer of the College. |
