Picnic or party meeting? NC hosts combo to discuss public woes | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 28: Even as the National Conference claims that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are suffering due to delay in holding of Assembly elections, the party is holding “picnic style” meetings to discuss the public woes. On June 27, the NC held one such meeting on streamside in South Kashmir’s Daksum , a picnic spot, and the party openly accepted the change and attributed it to the vision of NC Vice President Omar Abdullah. “Breaking away from the monotony of on-site meetings, JKNC VP Omar Abdullah chaired yet another off-site meeting with the party's South Zone functionaries at picturesque Daksum in South Kashmir. The meeting was marked by indepth discussions organisational and various public issues,” the party said. At the meeting held at the picnic spot, the NC had raised a tent to host the guests who apart from Omar included senior party leaders including Sakina Itoo, Nasir Aslam Wani, Altaf Kaloo and Tanvir Sadiq. Ironically, the leaders were discussing problems faced by the people of Jammu and Kashmir while themselves holding a picnic of sorts. The observers said it showed the “insensitivity of the party towards the public problems.” “On one hand the NC says that the people are suffering and on the other hand the same party holds picnic to discuss public woes. What message does such development convey?” asked a political analyst. The development has come at a time when the party has been saying that people of Jammu and Kashmir were living “miserable life in the absence of elected government” and that New Delhi should focus on holding of elections over other issues. In the recent past, the NC has been visiting picturesque places during party visits and its leaders post pictures of the same. “Picnic and politics is now a combo offer,” said the political analyst. |
